Procedure Fact Sheet   Overview Thermage Inc., (NASDAQ: THRM) offers a suite of safe, non-invasive procedures that help smooth, tighten and contour skin for a naturally younger looking appearance without surgery or injections and little to no downtime. Thermage® procedures are administered in a doctor’s office using the ThermaCool® System.   Unlike many laser treatments, Thermage is safe for patients of all skin colors, as it is not affected by skin pigment.   Thermage procedures use a unique, patented, monopolar capacitive radiofrequency (RF) technology that delivers uniform volumetric heating deep into the dermis and subcutaneous tissue to help tighten existing collagen and stimulate new collagen growth. Generally, patients benefit from a single treatment and can return to their regular activities immediately following treatment.  Results are subtle and continue to improve for up to six months and can last for years depending on skin condition and the natural aging process.  The procedure may take as little as 20 minutes or up to two hours, depending on the size of the treatment area.   With approximately 450,000 estimated worldwide patient treatments to date, Thermage has an excellent safety record of 99.8 percent.  Thermage procedures can also be used in combination with many common cosmetic procedures such as Botox®, fillers, liposuction and plastic surgery. Ultimately, the treating doctor will determine if a combination of therapies is appropriate, based on the patient’s needs and goals.   To ensure the most safe and efficacious results the company has established standardized procedure guidelines and to date has launched Face by Thermageä, Eyes by Thermageä, Lips by Thermageä, the Body Shape procedure by Thermage, the Cellulite procedure by Thermage and Hands by Thermageä.   Face by ThermageTM Face by Thermage was the first procedure launched by Thermage and remains the most popular. Our consumer research indicates that many women believe that they no longer look as young as they feel.  Skin creams are not enough and surgery is often too much.  The Face by Thermage procedure helps smooth, tighten and contour facial skin; softening the wrinkles around the mouth, eyes and forehead, giving these women a naturally younger looking appearance without surgery, injections and little to no downtime.  In August 2007 the procedure was improved with the launch of the ThermaTipä STC, which promises improved efficacy and predictability, as well as shorter treatment times.   Eyes by ThermageTM In April 2006 the company launched Eyes by Thermage, a non-invasive procedure that helps smooth, tighten and contour skin around the eyes and eyelids, decreasing wrinkles, lines and hooding for a naturally younger looking appearance. Thermage is the first (and to date, only) medical device company to have an FDA clearance for the non-invasive treatment of the upper and lower eyelids.   Patients treated in a multi-center study with Eyes by Thermage reported overall procedural satisfaction, minimal discomfort during the procedure and experienced smoother skin tone, as well as easier make-up application. The study also showed that side effects for the patients were minimal; therefore the procedure provides a unique and safe option for eyelid rejuvenation.   Lips by ThermageTM One of the newest additions to the Face by Thermage suite of procedures is Lips by Thermage, a non-invasive procedure to help smooth and tighten skin for fuller, more defined looking lips and decreased fine lines. “Thermage is a great option for those patients seeking younger, fuller, more defined looking lips without having an injection,” said Dr. Maxine Tabas of Orlando, FL, the pioneer physician for this procedure. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes.  Patients have reported that their lips appear plumper and fuller, they have more defined lip lines and their lipstick doesn’t feather.   The Body Shape procedure by Thermage The Body Shape procedure is designed to help tighten, firm and deep contour patients’ abdomens, arms, thighs and buttocks in a single treatment, without surgery and little to no downtime. The Body Shape procedure uses the new ThermaTip DC treatment tip specifically designed for deep contouring of the skin. The new ThermaTip DC is designed for similar smoothing and tightening effects as the current Thermage medium depth tips; however it heats significantly deeper into the subcutaneous layer of the skin to promote increased collagen tightening for shaping of the abdomen, “love handle”, thigh, buttock and arm areas.   The Cellulite procedure by Thermage According to a 2007 study by the Millennium Research Group, nearly 90 percent of women experience some level of cellulite. The Cellulite procedure is designed to noticeably reduce the appearance of cellulite in a single treatment. The procedure uses the new ThermaTip CL treatment tip to deeply heat the problem area, rebuild collagen connective tissues and improve blood flow to the tissues, helping to smooth the surface of the skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite. The new treatment tip is the culmination of over 21 months of clinical and technological development.   Hands by ThermageTM Many women notice the signs of aging in their hands first and are not aware that there are safe, non-surgical options to improve the appearance of their hands. Hands by Thermage is ideal for patients who have thinning skin on their hands and want to reduce crepiness, diminish the appearance of veins and gain more radiant skin texture. It also works well in combination with IPL or other treatments that remove brown spots, a visible sign of aging particularly on the hands.   Expanded Uses As Thermage develops guidelines for treatment of specific body parts and new applications, additional sub-brands and products will be launched.
